University at West Orange, 7:30
This is a rematch of last year’s Essex County Tournament semifinals, which West Orange won. The matchup between Wo-Town's Mya Bembry and University’s Danielle Robinson will have even the casual basketball fan on the edge of their seat.
No. 10 Cherokee at No. 13 Shawnee, 5:15
Cherokee (ranked #9 in our Power 10 pre-season ranking) is believed to be one of the best teams, if not the best, in South Jersey. Cherokee won the South Jersey Invitational and South Jersey, Group 4 tournament a year ago and returns four starters. They will face off against #13 ranked Shawnee. Shawnee has nice depth and are well coached. This game will be a nail biter for sure.
No. 1 Franklin at No. 3 Rutgers Prep, 5:30
This one has the potential to be a classic! Franklin won two of the three matchups between these teams last season, including a T of C semifinal battle. TheDribbleDrop Diary members Leliani Correa and Diamond Miller are about to deliver a blockbuster to the masses. Get your popcorn ready everyone!
No. 5 Red Bank Catholic at No. 2 Manasquan, 6:45
RBC and Manasquan is one of the best rivalries in girls basketball in the state. This Shore Conference rivalry will kick start again on Tuesday with the first of two regular season meetings between these elite programs. Manasquan beat Red Bank Catholic three times last year – including a strong win in the Tournament of Champions semifinals. RBC will be looking for revenge from the door. TheDribbleDrop diarist Dara Mabrey was electric in the season opener. Look for Mabrey to keep the momentum going in this one.
Boys Basketball
West Side at Seton Hall Prep, 7
The Pirates were clicking on all cylinders in its season-opening win over Montclair Immaculate. Ashton Miller led the way to victory with 21 points, while Jabri Abdur-Rahim had 15 points and 10 rebounds.
West Side will be looking to bounce back after a tough loss to Roselle Catholic. Look for these two teams to play their hearts out in a battle for bragging rights in Essex County.
