As told to Christian Mordi / @TheDribbleDrop on Instagram and Twitter
I always knew I wanted to be a college basketball player. When I was a little kid, I would go to my brothers’ practices and shoot before the practice started. I loved being around the game.
When I was young, I went to the Saint John Vianney Camps and met coach Karpell. I thought she was a great coach and someone I would like to play for. The SJV program is unreal. I knew it was something I would want to be a part of.
Playing for coach Karpell has been great. She has helped my game grow so much and helped me improve in small parts of my game that I never focused on.
Last year I played for Team Rio. I played for coach Shannon. She’s a great coach and person. Everyone on the team got along with her so well. We all created a great bond and we loved playing with each other.
After my freshman year, things began to come to light that I may be able to play on the division one level. Things really picked up last summer. I didn’t announce a top five during the process. I didn’t want my recruitment to get in the way of the team and I didn’t want too many people involved in my process. I didn’t want to create any problems, I wanted to figure it all out between my small circle of my coach and my family.
Earlier today I committed to The University of Richmond. I knew the staff when they were at Bucknell. I developed a great relationship with coach Roussell and the entire staff. I love them. I visited the school and it’s beautiful. It’s secluded in a sense but then when you go into the city it’s beautiful. I knew instantly I could see myself there and I knew I could be happy as a student-athlete.
I want to give a special shoutout to my coaches and trainers Coach Karpell, Coach Tiny Green, Kristen Somogyi and Doc O’Connor. I want to also give a special shoutout to my dad and the rest of my family.
